After a first edition in 1986 and a second in 2006, the author offers the third version of a comprehensive work now entitled:
This new edition also includes ammunition for small and medium caliber civilian and military long guns.
This choice should satisfy hunters, shooters, and collectors.
It was motivated by:
- A change in regulations that now classify (with very rare exceptions) most military ammunition for long guns and shooting or hunting cartridges in the same category (Category C);
- At the same time, a number of older ammunition items that were formerly classified in Category 1 (war cartridges) have been downgraded to Category D (collector's ammunition);
- Many military weapons manufacturers (particularly sniper rifle producers) no longer hesitate to produce weapons that use target or hunting cartridges due to their high performance.

The book now comprises two volumes, following the format already used in a recent reissue of Cartridges for Pistols, Revolvers, and Submachine Guns (published by Editions du Brévail in 2023-2024):
- Volume 1, Metric Calibers (452 ​​pages, over 1,000 illustrations);
- Volume 2, Anglo-Saxon Calibers (forthcoming).
