To date, there was no book presenting the synthesis of Remington rifles and carbines purchased in the USA by France. Indeed, I realized that many amateurs did not know, or badly, identify the different types of Remington "Rolling-Block" that equipped our armies. The purpose of this book is not to go into the advanced technical details of the famous "Rolling-Block"; it is simply a question of making the reader discover the genesis of this system, the different models of weapons used in France and their history. The ammunition used is also detailed, as well as the bayonets and sabre-bayonets associated with the rifles. We have called on the house of Remington at two critical periods in our history to replenish our armament, swallowed up in the turmoil of battle. In 1870 first of all, the firm of Ilion put the entire production of its factory at the service of France with the rifle certainly the most modern of its time, which greatly increased the morale of the troops. In 1914 then, Remington once again answered present to quickly provide us with the additional weapons that we needed for the mobilized rear.
Long-time collector and passionate about this system, it is with pleasure that I share here a lot of information so that firearms enthusiasts
can discover, through hundreds of photos and archival documents, often unpublished information, both on French prototypes and on rifles, shotguns and carabiners made in America. For each type of weapon, photos and a table of the main characteristics make it possible to quickly identify a model that one would have in hand.
